6th and 7th grade – The most important things to spend time on are development of athleticism and stick skills.  Practice and play with your local club, recreation leagues, attend clinics offered by local college and high school programs (if available), and practice stick skills at home.   There is no need for expensive travel to tournaments or other showcase events that are far away.  Focus on development and enjoyment of the sport. Playing other sports is also great for overall athletic development.

If you do not have a club program nearby, then try to attend clinics and camps offered by local colleges and high school programs.  If you do have a club program nearby, and cannot afford to participate fully with a club, ask about the option to practice only.
